Craft Beer Category Manager

Bigfoot Beverages of Eugene is recruiting for a Craft Beer Category Manager. The Craft Beer Category Manager utilizes space management software and tools to efficiently and effectively execute the strategic direction of craft beer schematics.  Collaborates with the Sales Team to identify opportunities within specific accounts where schematics can be utilized to maximize retail space, sales and profit.  Analysis of current trends, seasonality, focus items, and historical data to maximize distribution and optimize profitability.  This position is responsible for communicating reset and schematic updates with the Sales Team across all locations. Works closely and has exceptional communication with the Director of Craft Beer, Key Account Manager and Sales Teams for all locations.This is a full-time, exempt level position.  The schedule is Monday through Friday with some weekend work as necessary.  The regular shift start time is 8:00 am – 5:00 pm with additional hours based on daily need.  



Essential Functions

  1. Strategic planning and execution to enhance craft beer distribution, profitability, productivity, and efficiency throughout the company’s operations.
  2. Achieve sales plan by period and annually.
  3. Collaborate with the Sales Team, suppliers and accounts to create schematics based on account needs, promotions and current initiatives.
  4. Design schematics in industry-specific software to maximize retail space, sales and profit.
  5. Prepare presentations for accounts and suppliers for new item positioning, promotional analysis and overall space management.
  6. Analyze craft beer sales on a regular basis using financials and sales reports, to measure productivity, distribution and goals or to identify areas of opportunity, program improvement and customer preferences.  Effectively communicate information to the craft beer team.
  7. Identify opportunities for resets through review of space and sales with accounts.  Generate and sell-in reset proposals in a timely manner.
  8. Effectively communicates reset and schematic information with the Sales Team.
  9. Develop and maintain customer relationships with suppliers and accounts through account visits, business updates, consistent communication and overall product knowledge.  Provide leadership and support for situations involving problem resolution.
  10. Allocate time in trade and route ride with Sales Representatives, focusing on overall execution, display set-up and maintenance, and general account activity.
  11. Analyze historical data or trends to ensure maximum profitability of store space.
  12. Effective communication with Director of Craft Beer on a regular basis on relevant or major issues and strategic planning.
  13. Research, propose and assist with the development of future strategic initiatives within the Craft Beer Department.
  14. Attend trade shows, events and tastings.
  15. Assist in annual and quarterly planning with top breweries.
  16. Attend marketing, sales and company-wide meetings.
  17. Regular and reliable attendance.


Work Environment

This job operates in multiple work environments including but not limited to a professional office environment, warehouse, and is frequently in the trade at customer accounts.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, filing cabinets and fax machine.  This position drives a company vehicle and may be exposed to outside elements and inclement weather when traveling to and from accounts and locations.


Required Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, preferably in sales, marketing or business administration; or five years of related experience in distribution, beverage and beer industry; or combination of education and experience.
  2. 3-5 years of experience in sales, category management, or merchandising.
  3. Craft Beer industry experience.


Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Space Management experience.
